DIE-SINKING ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE MACHINING OF MAGNESİUM-CALCİUM (MG-0.8CA) ALLOY FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS

This experimental study explores the effect of working current and pulse time on the performance of magnesium-calcium (Mg-0.8Ca) alloy, an unusual material, in die-sinking electrical discharge machining (EDM). The EDM performance was investigated by results of material removal rate (MRR), electrode wear ratio (EWR), electrode shape deformation and average surface roughness (Ra). Statistical methods, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and regression analysis were used for analytical explanation of the experimental results. It has been found that superior MRR and EWR results can be obtained in machining of magnesium-calcium alloys by EDM. However, surface roughness results of the alloy are not preferable after EDM
