Bu makalede mit kavramına yüklenene çeşitli tanımlar verilmiş ve bu tanımların mitleri anlamak için yeterli olmayacağı vurgulanmıştır.  Mitlerin mantık ve düşünce, din ve duygu, etik ve estetik, somut ve soyut, teorik ve pratik olarak toplumdaki işlevsel boyutlarının ne olduğuna dair bir takım sorulara cevap alabilmek için, tarihi seyir içerisinde mite karşı gösterilen tavır ve anlama çabalarının gözden geçirilmesi gerekmektedir. Makalede bu konudaki incelemelerin ardından, insanlığın tüm yaşamı üstünde silinmez bir iz bırakan mit olgusunun, herhangi bir kuramın bakış açısı ile izah edilmesinin mümkün olmadığı sonucuna ulaşmaktadır.

In this article various definitions are given to the concept of myth, it has been emphasized that these definitions would not be enough to understand myths. In order to answer questions about myths about what is the functional dimensions of reason and thought, religion and emotion, ethical and aesthetic, concrete and abstract, theoretically and practically what is the functional dimension in the society, the attitude and comprehension efforts shown towards the mite in the historical course need to be observed. In the article, by following the examinations in this subject,  it has been reached the result that follows the myth phenomenon that leaves an indelible mark on the whole human life is not possible to be explained by any point of view of the theory.
