TOPLUMSAL DÖNÜŞÜM ÇERÇEVESİNDE DEĞİŞEN ANLAM VE KULLANIMLARIYLA “BOŞ ZAMAN” SOSYOLOJİSİ

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı toplumsal dönüşüm çerçevesinde boş zaman olgusunun değişen anlam, temsil ve kullanımlarını incelemek ve boş zaman sosyolojisinin temel konularını ve güncel yaklaşımlarını, üretim ilişkileri, tüketim örüntüleri ve gündelik hayatın diğer bileşenleri bağlamında ortaya koymaktır. Makalede, boş zaman sosyolojisinin odağa aldığı okul ya da iş hayatı gibi resmi ya da kurumsal bağlardan azade zaman diliminin ne ölçüde boş veya serbest olduğu sorgulanacaktır. Bu doğrultuda literatür taraması gerçekleştirilerek, öncelikle tarihsel bir yaklaşımla boş zaman olgusunun çağlar boyu değişen anlamı değerlendirilmeye çalışılacaktır. Ardından, kültürel etkinlik, spor faaliyetleri ve turizm başta olmak üzere “ciddi” ve “ciddi olmayan” türleriyle gündelik hayatın içinde boş zamanın temsili ve kullanımı tartışılacaktır. Son olarak, dünyadan ve ülkemizden örneklerle boş zaman kavramını merkeze alan akademik çalışmalarda değişen yaklaşımlar ortaya konulacaktır. Her şeyin şimdiki zamanın uzamı içine sıkıştırıldığı günümüzde, boş zamanın, derin düşünce ve değer üretiminden uzak, kalıcılığa ulaşmadan sönümlenen kirler ve eylemlerle sarılı etkinlikler dizisine indirgenmiş durumda bulunması çalışmanın temel bulguları arasındadır.

SOCIOLOGY OF “LEISURE” AND ITS CHANGING MEANINGS AND USES WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION

The main objective of this paper is to analyze the changing meanings, representations and uses of leisure within the framework of social transformation, and put forth the main issues and contemporary approaches in sociology of leisure through relations of production, consumption patterns and other components of everyday life. This article aims to question the extent to which leisure is considered to be a time period freed from all formal and corporate attachments including school and work. By employing literature review, this article rst seeks to evaluate the changing meaning of leisure throughout different historical periods. The article then discusses the uses of leisure in everyday life with regard to its different types, both serious and casual, including cultural, sportive and touristic leisure activities. Lastly, in light of the examples from Turkey and around the world, contemporary academic perspectives on leisure studies will be covered. The main ndings of the article state that leisure has been reduced to a series of activities, surrounded by ideas and practices far from contemplation and value creation, fading before reaching the stage of permanence in our contemporary era of an endless present time.
