Türkiye Türkçesinde Zaman Metaforları: Bilişsel Dil Bilimsel Bir Yaklaşım

Bu çalışma, zaman metaforlarını sistematik bir şekilde ele alan bilişsel dil bilim kuramından yola çıkarak Türkiye Türkçesindeki zaman metaforlarını incelemeyi hedeflemektedir. Bilişsel dil bilimde, son yıllarda birçok farklı dilden örneklerle zaman kavramı ve zaman metaforu üzerinde durulmuştur. Ancak, Türkçedeki zaman metaforları üzerine şu ana kadar ayrıntılı bir inceleme yapılmamıştır. Aslında Türkiye Türkçesinde zaman kavramının göstergesi olan birkaç sözcük olmasına rağmen bu çalışmada sadece Arapçadan alınan zaman ve vakit sözcükleri ele alınacaktır. Bu sözcükler, Türkçede gündelik yaşamda devamlı olarak birbirinin yerine kullanılıyor gibi görünse de Evans’ın anlam bilimsel sınıflandırması temel alınarak zaman ve vakit sözcüklerinin benzer olduğu kadar, farklı anlamlarda kullanıldığı da gösterilmiştir. Çalışma göstermiştir ki, vakit ve zaman sözcüklerindeki temel ayrım anlam bilimsel olarak süreç ve matris anlamlarında ortaya çıkmaktadır. Vakit, anları da içinde barındıran ve zamanı sistematik olarak bölen birimlerden oluşurken, zaman vakitten farklı olarak daha kapsayıcı özelliğiyle matris anlamında kullanılır. Diğer bir deyişle, vakit sözcüğü, bölümlenmiş bir zaman dilimini dile getirerek zaman sözcüğünden ayrılır. Aynı şekilde zaman sözcüğü daha çok matris olarak kullanılmasına rağmen, vakit sözcüğü daha çok süreç anlamında kullanılmaktadır

Time Metaphors in Turkey Turkish : A Cognitive Linguistic Approach

This study intends to examine time metaphor, a key concept in cogntive linguistics. The meaning of time and time metaphors have been studied considerably in different languages in recent years. Although Turkish owns several words that denote time, only two words, zaman and vakit, were handled in this study.Turkish uses two distinct words to denote time, and even if these two similar words seem to be used interchangeably, they are also used in different senses based on Evans’ semantic classification. The study found that the main difference between the two words emerged in matrix and duration senses. While the word vakit that accomodates moments and divides time systematically, the word zaman has a more inclusive property in matrix sense. In other words, the word vakit denotes a divided time period , whereas the word zaman does not offer this kind of divided time property. Similarly, the word zaman is used more frequently in matrix sense, the word vakit is more often used in duration sense
