Prevalence of house dust mites in houses, hotels and student dormitories of Diyarbakır province

Öz House dust mites, those cause allergies such as asthma and dermatitis, are widespread worldwide. Thepresent study was carried out to determine the prevalence of house dust mites in houses, hotels and studentdormitories at Diyarbakır province. For this aim, dust samples were collected from houses, dormitoriesand hotels in Bağlar, Kayapınar, Sur and Yeniflehir, which are central districts of Diyarbakır, in the periodof April-May 2012. 79 of 176 dust samples were found positive with mites. In the present study, 929 housedust mites belonging to the orders Astigmata, Mesostigmata and Prostigmata were isolated. The identificationof mites belonging to order Astigmata was made up to species level, and 12 species belonging to fourfamilies were determined. The identification of mites belonging to orders Prostigmata and Mesostigmatawas remained as family and order level. Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus Trouessart, 1898 was thepredominant mite 56.62 % followed by Lepidoglyphus destructor Schrank 19.806 % , Acarus siro Linnaeus,1758 8.934 % and Tyrophagus putrescentiae Schrank, 1781 8.181 %
