Bilhassa günümüz dünyasında sinema, bilgisayar ve internet teknolojisinin gelişmesiyle birlikte sözlü ve yazılı kültür konusu görsellik ve işitsellik bağlamında tekrar gündeme gelmiştir. Sözlü ve yazılı kültür arasındaki ayrım özellikle edebiyat araştırmalarıyla ortaya çıkmıştır.
