Sürdürülebilirlik Raporlarında Döngüsel Ekonomi: Borsa İstanbul’da Bir Araştırma

Döngüsel ekonomi, atıkların oluşmasını en aza indiren malzemelerin ve kaynakların kullanım ömrü sonunda ürün döngüsüne geri dönmesini sağlayan, bu şekilde ürünlerin değerini uzun süre boyunca korumayı hedefleyen bir sistemdir. Türkiye’de ve Dünya’da döngüsel ekonomiye yönelik ilgi artarken, ilgili kavramın işletmeler tarafından ne kadar benimsendiğini araştıran çalışmalar oldukça sınırlıdır. Bu çalışmada literatürde yer alan bu boşluğun doldurulmasına katkıda bulunmak için, işletmelerin döngüsel ekonomi kavramını sürdürülebilirlik gündemlerine nasıl dahil ettiklerini belirlemek amacıyla Borsa İstanbul’da listelenen işletmelerin sürdürülebilirlik raporlarının sistematik bir incelemesi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada (i) işletmelerin döngüsel ekonomiyi açıklama düzeyleri, (ii) döngüsel ekonomi ile sürdürülebilirlik arasındaki ilişki ve (iii) sunulan döngüsel ekonomi uygulamaları belirlenmiştir. Bu kapsamda yapılan analizlerin sonuçları, döngüsel ekonominin işletmeler tarafından sürdürülebilirlik gündemine entegre edilmeye başlandığını göstermektedir.

Circular Economy in Sustainability Reports: An Investigation in Borsa Istanbul Abstract

Circular economy is a system that minimizes the generation of waste and ensures that materials and resources are returned to the product cycle at the end of their life cycle, thus aiming to preserve the value of products for a long time. While interest in the "Circular Economy" is increasing in our country and in the world, studies investigating the extent to which the concept is adopted by businesses are quite limited. In this study, in order to contribute to filling this gap in the literature, a systematic review of the sustainability reports of enterprises listed on Borsa Istanbul was conducted to determine how enterprises incorporate the circular economy concept into their sustainability agenda. The study reveals (i) the level of disclosure of circular economy, (ii) the relationship between circular economy and sustainability, and (iii) the circular economy practices presented. The results of the analysis show that circular economy has started to be integrated into the sustainability agenda by companies.
