DMF INDEXES, PERIODONTAL INDEXES AND SALIVARY FLOW RATE AND SALIVARY PH IN TYPE 2 DIABETIC PATIENTS

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare diabetic and healty subjects with regard to dental caries (DMF indexes), periodontal index, salivary flow, salivary pH, Material and methods: Sixty subjects, 40 with a diagnosis of diabetes and 40 healthy, were included in this study. Diabetic and control groups examined for DMF indexes, periodontal status (CPITN), salivary flow rate and salivary pH.Results: Salivary flow rate was 0,26 mL/min in the control subjects and 0,17 mL/min in the diabetic subjects. CPITN was 3.13 in the diabetic subjects and 2.63 in the control subjects. Mean DMF indexes was 16.1 in the diabetic subjects and 8.05 in the control subjects. The mean pH values were 6.82 in the control subjects and 6.79 in the diabetic subjects. Salivary flow rate, CPITN and DMF index in the diabetic group were significantly different from the control groups. No significant differences were observed in salivary pH in diabetic and healty subjects. Conclusions: This study reveals that diabetic patientsexhibited a potentially higher risk for dental decay, periodontitis and xerostomia. Diabetic patients is needto consevative theraphy for dental and oral healthy.
