Evaluation Of The Dynamic And Static Modulus Of Elasticity For Dry And Saturated Samples In Granitic Rocks

An ultrasonic sound wave has been used in rock mechanics to determine rock properties for many years, since it is a relatively simple, low-cost and non-destructive testing method compared to others. In this study, the ultrasonic sound (P and S) waves, density, weight and volume as the water absorption rate, Schmidt surface hardness index and porosity were determined both for dry and water-saturated samples regarding 11 different types of granitic rocks. The relationship between static and dynamic elastic modules and poisson ratio were investigated. Dynamic and static elasticity is determined by mathematical and experimental respectively. It is found that there is no correlation between calculated and experimental elasticity modulus for dry samples, but high correlation between saturated samples. As for the dynamic and static poisson ratio, the correlation coefficients are determined for dry and saturated samples as 0.49 and 0.25 respectively. It is determined that the usage of dynamic poisson ratio is not suitable for rocks used in the study
