Effects of obesity on sleep quality and daily life activities in patients with myofascial pain syndrome

Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the obesity effect on sleep quality and functional status in patients with myofascial pain syndrome. Additionally, it was planned to evaluate the correlation between body mass index and sleep quality orfunctional status.Material and Method: Sixty patients with myofascial neck pain were divided into two groups (Obese and control). In both groups, age, gender, disease duration, body mass index, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Short Form-36 scores were noted. Results: The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Short Form-36 scores were worse in obese group than controls. The short form-36 and Pittsburg sleep quality values weren’t showed any correlation with body mass index in both groups. Conclusion: In this study, it was shown that sleep quality and daily life activities were more affected in obese groups in patients with myofascial pain syndrome.
