Knowledge about the Neolithic Period of the Volcanic Cappadocia Region is based on excavations con- ducted by İstanbul and Ankara Universities. Due to its impressive color and suitability for tool producti- on, obsidian was a favourite raw material in prehistoric times. The Volcanic Cappadocia Region has rich obsidian sources and because of their proximity, these sources were consumed at high rates at Neolithic si- tes in Aksaray and Niğde. The limited information about the Neolithic Period in Nevşehir where some obsidian sources also exist comes from survey projects. Excavations that were carried out in 2016 and 2017 at Sofular Höyük which is located in Nevşehir, Ürgüp, Sofular Village, provide significant data due to its uniqueness (the first excavated Pre-Pottery Neolithic site in Nevşehir). Chipped stone, ground stone and bone tools were found as both surface and excavated material in addition to some stone beads.
