İklim bakımından şartlar elverişli, buna karşılık diğer şartlar (toprak ve yerşekilleri) elverişsiz ise, bitkiler optimum yaşama seviyesine ulaşamayacak ve hayatını yaşam mücadele içerisinde geçirecektir. Diğer taraftan, toprak ve yerşekilleri bakımından elverişli şartlar taşıyan bir sahada, iklim elverişli değilse, bitkiler sahaya yine hakim olamayacak ve zorla tutunmaya çalışacaktır. Buna göre, yetişme şartları bir bütündür ve bitki topluluğu ancak bu bütün içinde tam bir gelişme gösterir. Bitki topluluğu bu yetişme şartlarının kendine en uygun olduğu hallerde sahaya hakim olur.
