Survival Instinct: A Spatial Perception Process

Environment-behavior theories, which are at the intersection of architecture, psychology and social sciences, have been revisited through current field studies and this review article has been constructed in the context of the survival instinct that is at the heart of human existence. Perception is essential in comprehending and evaluating space and social environments. The processes in which perception is cognized and the types of meanings that security and belonging needs gain in the living environment are among the important criteria to be considered. In this article, it is reminded again with examples how the norms of the culture to which one belongs and the conflicts between the needs of individuality and socialization codify the space and thus change and transform one's spatial behavior.
