Treatment of Talar Dome Osteochondral Lesions Using Transmalleolar Mosaicplasty Technique

ür Objective: Mosaicplasty is an effective and safe technique which can be applied to other joints as well as knee. The aim of the study was to evaluate the results of mosaicplasty performed with transmalleolar osteotomy in patients with talar dome lesions of Bristol stage III-IV. Patients and Methods: One female and eight male patients (nine cases in total) who were operated using transmalleolar mosaicplasty were included. Average age was 38.6 years (24-52 years). Preoperative and postoperative rest pain, night pain, and activity pain were evaluated via Visual Analog Scale (VAS 1-10); satisfaction score (1-4 ) and returning back to job or sports activity after operation (1-3) were assessed. Results: At the end of averagely 21.8 month (3-42 months) of follow-up period, differences between average preoperative and postoperative rest pain, night pain and activity pain (P values were p=0.007, p=0.043, and p=0.006 respectively) were found to be significant. Satisfaction score was excellent or very well for all cases. Conclusion: Mosaicplasty procedure with transmalleolar technique is an effective and safe treatment method for stage III-IV lesions.
