Factors Influencing the Blood Loss in Total Knee Arthroplasty and Preventive Measures

Total knee arthroplasty surgery has become one of the most frequently performed surgical procedure byincreasing average life time in our country and the world. This surgery is usually applied to geriatric age group,so many of the patients have accompanying chronic diseases. Therefore, it is important to understand thecauses of perioperative blood loss and develop preventive methods. Thus, it is aimed to keep the hemoglobinvalue as high as possible while performing minimal blood transfusion. An individualized strategy based onpatient specific risk factors and co-morbidities has been considered the most accurate method to achieve thisaim in recent years. Multiple strategies can be used alone or together during perioperative period.
