Aim: We aimed to evaluate the influences of family medicine pyhsicians during pregnancy follow-up before and after transformation in the health care system. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was performed in Kandira, İzmit. Sixty women who had one pregancy before and one pregancy after the health-care system transformation were included in the study. Pre- gestational consulting service use, date of first visit, iron supplementation, muti vitamine supplementation, folic acid supplementation, chromosomal anomaly screening test results, 2nd trimester ultrasonography findings, oral-glucose tolerance test results and the number of visits during pregnancy were compared. Results: The mean age of the study group were 31 years (25-38). Compared to prior to health transformation process group, pre-gestational consulting service use, date of first visit, folic acid supplementation, chromosomal anomaly screening test results, 2nd trimester ultrasonography findings, oral-glucose tolerance test results and the number of visits during pregnancy were significantly increased after the transformation in the health-care system. No statistically significant difference was found i means of iron and multivitamin supplemantations. Conclusion: Followig the transformation in health-care system, pre-gestational consultation had a tendency to increase, screening tests and supplementations during pregnancy follow-up provided improvement in treatment protocols. It is believed that improved quality of equipments in public hospitals and easy access to medical care facilities provided increase in the number of hospital applications which also helped out finding the pregancy-related problems. Contribution of medical services provided by Family medicine physicians before and during pregnancy is more significant after the transformation in the health-care system.
