Birnbaum Importance Based Genetic Algorithm and its Aplication in Optimization of Linear Consecutive ?-out-of-? Systems

The reliability of a technical system in engineering applications depends on the reliability of the components that consist of the system. In some particular systems, two or more components may have the same function and these components may be assigned to different positions in the system. In such systems, the reliability of the system can be improved by changing the positions of the same components. In this study, linear consecutive ?-out-of-? systems which are the general form of serial and parallel systems are examined and the optimization of the system has been tried to be achieved by Birnbaum importance based genetic algorithm approach when all the constituent components of the system have the same function. In addition, the oil transport system has been considered to demonstrate the application of the our proposed approach and a case study has been given for this system.
