İnsanoğlunun doğayı bilinçsiz bir şekilde kullanması ve çevresel problemler sebebiyle çok sayıda türün soyu tükenmektedir. Besin, yapı ve ilaç sanayileri gibi birçok yönden faydalar sunan doğal kaynakların korunması insanoğlunun kendi çıkarları açısından büyük öneme sahiptir.
