DISCONTINUITY OF KNOWLEDGE

Öz M. Foucault and T. Kuhn concerned with the discontinuity of discourse in the sciences and social disciplines. In 1960s Kuhn stated that the natural science reflects basically a sequence of paradigm changes. In 1970s Foucault claimed a form of discourse about the growth of scientific knowledge in a range of human and medical sciences. They both located extreme discontinuities in the history of knowledge and science. The archaeology of human knowledge is meaningful in this respect. The power linked to truth or discourse is the main cause in this continuities. There is always a shift in focus while maintaining, producing and creating our systems of beliefs. Foucault and Kuhn make clearer the scope of “knowledge/discontinuity” doctrine through separating relationships of power on knowledge from the absolute truth.
