Prevalence of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Mutations in Patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in Turkish Population

Aims: Epidermal growth factor receptor mutationanalysis in non-small cell lung cancer is importantfor selecting patients who will receive treatment withtyrosine kinase inhibitors. In this study, we aimed toinvestigate the prevalence of epidermal growth factorreceptor mutations and mutation patterns in the Turkishpopulation. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed molecularpathology reports of 959 cases with lung cancer analysedfor epidermal growth factor receptor mutations. Weanalysed all four epidermal growth factor receptor exonmutations using a real-time polymerase chain reactionplatform. Results: In this study, the epidermal growth factorreceptor mutation rate in the Turkish population was16.7% (160 of 959). The epidermal growth factorreceptor mutation frequency was significantly higher in women (37.1%, n=96) than in men (9.1%, n=64) (p
