YÜKSEK ÖĞRETİM KURUMLARININ YEREL EKONOMİLERE KATKILARI: MANYAS MESLEK YÜKSEK OKULU ÖRNEĞİ

Meslek Yüksek Okulları MYO , üretim ve hizmet sektörlerinin ihtiyaç duyduğu ara elemanların yetiştirilmesinde önemli bir rol üstlenmektedir. Bu fonksiyona ilave olarak MYO’lar, eğitim gören öğrencilerin harcamaları, personele ödenen ücretler ve kurumsal harcamaları kanalıyla da yerel ekonomiye önemli bir parasal katkı sunmaktadırlar. Bu kurumlardan birisi olan Manyas MYO’nun öğrenci harcamaları ve diğer kurumsal harcamalarıyla Manyas ekonomisine sunduğu parasal katkının tahmin edilmesi, gerek bölgesel kalkınma gerekse üniversite-kent işbirliğinin farklı boyutlarıyla incelenmesi bakımından önem arz etmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı; Manyas MYO’nun öğrenci harcamaları ve diğer kurumsal harcamalarıyla, Manyas ekonomisine sağladığı doğrudan, dolaylı ve uyarılmış ekonomik katkıların tahmin edilmesidir. Araştırmada veriler anket yardımıyla toplanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; Manyas MYO’da öğrenim gören öğrencilerin, bölge ekonomisine ilk harcama kanalıyla öğrenci başına ayda ortalama 723,11 TL katkı sağladıkları, MYO’da eğitim öğretim gören toplam 394 öğrenci ve Manyas MYO’nun personel ve diğer giderlerden oluşan kurumsal harcamaları eklendiğinde, toplam katkının, yıllık Yerel Gayri Safi Hasıla’da 5.024.998 TL., Yerel Harcanabilir Gelir’de ise 2.884.349 TL. olduğu tahmin edilmiştir. Bu katkıda en büyük payın öğrenci harcamalarına ait olduğu görülmüş, yapılan projeksiyonlar, öğrenci sayısının iki katına çıkması halinde, bahsedilen etkinin de iki katına çıkacağını ortaya koymuştur

The Contributions of Higher Education Institutions to the Regional Economies: A Case of Manyas Vocational School

Vocational schools VS play a major role in qualifying the intermediate staff needed for manufacturing and service sectors. In additon, they have significant contributions to the local economy, thanks to the expenditures by the VS students, by the staff or by the school itself. With in this framework, to investigate the contribution of Manyas Vocational School in Manyas county in terms of local development issues and cooperation between the School and the county is quite important. This investigation enables us to develop better policies which positively contributes to the local industries and local development. This study is the first for Manyas and therefore it is also very significant. The aim of the study is to analyze direct, indirect, and induced economic contributions of the expenditures of the students and the institutional expenses of Manyas Vocational School to the Manyas economy. Data were collected by questionnaire method. The results show that the students of Manyas Vocational School contributed 723,11 TL per student to the local economy on a monthly basis. Depending on the findings, it is estimated that the total contribution arising from the 394 students, staff of the VS, and institutional expenditures by the VS itself to local GDP is 5.024.998 TL and to local Disposable Income is 2.884.349 TL. In this contribution, the biggest share goes to student expenditures and the projections reveal that if the number of students are doubled, the total effect will be doubled too
