Doğada 200’den fazla bilinen bor minerali olmasına rağmen bunlardan ancak 15 kadarı ekonomik değere sahiptir. Yeryüzünde bor yatakları birkaç yerde yoğunlaşmıştır ve bunların yaklaşık % 66’sı Türkiye’dedir. Türkiye bor yatakları 1865 yılında bulunmasından sonra yabancılar tarafından işlenmiş, 1950’lerden itibaren Türk özel sektörü ve Etibank da işletmeye başlamıştır. 1978’de devletleştirme sonucu sadece Etibank tarafından işletilmeye devam edilmiştir

There are approximately 15 boron minerals that have economic value although more than 200 boron minerals are known. Important boron mineral reserves are gathered in a few places around the world and more than two thirds of them are in Turkey. Only foreign companies from 1865 to 1960’s exploited Turkish boron mineral reserves, than some private Turkish companies and Etibank started the beneficiation of the reserves. After the nationalization of the boron reserves and their exploitation in 1978, only Etibank continued
