Hollanda ve Çağdaş İslam Araştırmaları: NISIS (Hollanda Üniversitelerarası İslam Araştırmaları Okulu)

Bu çalışmada Hollanda’da, İslam Araştırmaları alanında son yirmi küsur yılda üretilmiş olan akademik müktesebat ele alınmıştır. Makalede Hollanda’da İslam Araştırmaları alanında faaliyet gösteren Netherlands Interuniversity School for Islamic Studies (Hollanda Üniversitelerarası İslam Araştırmaları Okulu) kurumu incelenmiştir. İslam ve Müslüman toplumlar hakkında araştırma yapan ve eğitim veren NISIS, 2010'da Hollanda’nın bu alandaki resmi ulusal araştırma okulu olarak kurulmuştur. NISIS, İslam araştırmaları alanına ciddi katkılar sunan dokuz üniversiteyi fakülteleri, doktora ve yüksek lisans öğrencileri ile birlikte bir araya getiren akademik bir platform olup bu yönüyle Hollanda akademik geleneği tarihinde (ve aslında bütün Avrupa’da) eşi benzeri olmayan bir iş birliğini temsil etmektedir. Araştırma okuluna ilk olarak her biri bir yönetim kurulu üyesi tarafından temsil edilen sekiz üniversite katıldı: Rotterdam Erasmus Üniversitesi, Leiden Üniversitesi, Radboud Üniversitesi, Tilburg Üniversitesi, Amsterdam Üniversitesi, Groningen Üniversitesi, Utrecht Üniversitesi ve VU Amsterdam Üniversitesi. Ortaklığa 2013 yılında Maastricht Üniversitesi’nin de katılmasıyla İslam Araştırmaları alanında akademik araştırma yapan ve/veya eğitim veren bütün Hollanda üniversiteleri bu akademik yapılanmaya katılmış oldu. NISIS, İslam ve Müslüman toplumlar hakkında araştırma yapan Hollanda ve Belçika’daki doktora ve yüksek lisans öğrencilerine: mevsimsel okullar, ağ günleri ve diğer eğitim faaliyetleri gibi imkânlar sunmaktadır. Uluslararası faaliyet alanını genişletmek amacıyla dünyadaki akademik kurumlarla mevcut bağlarını güçlendirmek için gayret eden NISIS, özellikle Endonezya, Fas ve Türkiye’ye odaklanmaktadır. Benelüks (Belçika, Hollanda ve Lüksemburg) bölgesinin İslam Araştırmaları ve Müslüman topluluklar hakkında araştırma yapan ve eğitim veren önemli kurumlardan birine dönüşen NISIS, Hollanda sınırlarını başarılı bir şekilde aşıp Belçika’dan KU Leuven ve Ghent Üniversitesi, Almanya’dan ise Ruhr Üniversitesi Bochum Ortadoğu ve İslam Araştırmaları Bölümü ile ortaklık kurdu. Uluslararası Çağdaş Dünyada İslam Araştırması Enstitüsü (ISIM) ve daha sonra NISIS, ‘’Hollanda’nın gerçek manada dengeli, çok kültürlü bir toplum geliştirebilmesi için buna katkıda bulunan kültürler ve toplumlar hakkında bilgi sahibi olmak elzemdir’’ düşüncesinden hareketle kurulmuştur. Çalışmamızda NISIS öncesi teşkilatlanma çabaları; sosyal bilimler ve beşerî bilimler açısından Müslüman dünyasında büyük toplumsal, siyasi ve kültürel öneme sahip çağdaş gelişmelerle ilgili daha fazla araştırma yapma ihtiyacına yanıt olarak kurulan ISIM, faaliyetleri ve yayınları etraflıca ele alınmıştır. Ayrıca NISIS’in kuruluşu, kuruluş amacı, hedefleri, eğitim programı, mevsimsel okulları, İslam Araştırmaları ağ günleri, diğer eğitim faaliyetleri, disiplinler arasılık prensibi, diğer kurumlar ile ilişkileri, Hollanda toplumunun çeşitli kesimlerine ulaşma çabası ve araştırma alanları ortaya konulmuştur.

The Netherlands and Contemporary Islamic Studies: NISIS (Netherlands Interuniversity School for Islamic Studies)

In this study, we explored the academic acquis in the field of Islamic studies produced in the last twenty-plus years in the Netherlands. We examined Netherlands Interuniversity School for Islamic Studies to determine the most important Dutch institutions in the field of Islamic studies, their history, foundation objectives, research areas, education policies, publications, the most qualified researchers and original work in the field. NISIS, which solely covers Islam and Muslim societies in its broadest dimension, was established in 2010 as the official national research school in the Netherlands. The research school was first attended by eight universities, each represented by a board member: Erasmus University Rotterdam, Leiden University, Radboud University, Tilburg University, Amsterdam University, Groningen University, Utrecht University, and VU University Amsterdam. With the participation of Maastricht University in 2013, NISIS constitutes the first collaboration in the history of Dutch scholarship, an academic platform of all universities that has a significant contribution to the field of Islamic studies, bringing together nine Dutch universities, their faculties, Ph.D. candidates, and master’s students. NISIS provides Ph.D. candidates and master's students in the Netherlands and Belgium with a number of opportunities: seasonal schools, network days, and other educational activities. NISIS strives to strengthen its existing ties with academic institutions around the globe, focusing mainly on Indonesia, Morocco, and Turkey. NISIS managed to cross the borders of the Netherlands and has successfully partnered with KU Leuven and Ghent University from Belgium and Ruhr University Bochum from Germany. The International Institute for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World (ISIM) and later NISIS, were founded on a fundamental principle "For the Netherlands to develop a truly balanced, multicultural society, it is essential to know the cultures and societies that contribute to it". In our research, we discussed the academic efforts before NISIS; the establishment, activities, and publications of ISIM in detail. We shed light on the establishment of NISIS, its purpose, objectives, research areas, educational program, seasonal schools, Islamic research network days, other educational activities, interdisciplinarity principle, relations with other institutions, and efforts to reach various segments of Dutch society.
