Kültürel miras, toplumu bir arada tutan ortak değerlerin gelecek nesillere aktarımıyla varlığını sürdüren hem somut hem de soyut öğelerin bütünüdür. Son dönemlerde oldukça ilgi gören ve üzerinde çalışmalar yapılan bir konu olan sürdürülebilirlik kültürel mirasın devamlılığını sağlamada önemli bir etkendir. Kültürel mirası korumak çevresel, ekonomik ve sosyal gelişmeyi desteklemektedir. Yerel değerler, yaşam tarzı, malzeme ve ustalığın ürünü olan geleneksel mimari kültürel mirasın en belirgin örneklerindendir. Geleneksel mimarinin sürdürülebilirliği konusunda koruma kadar bu yapılardaki özelliklerin yorumlanarak yeniden kullanılması da önemli bir husustur. Bu bağlamda, çalışmada geleneksel mimarinin sahip olduğu özelliklerinden yola çıkarak sürdürülebilirlik bağlamında yeni yapılan bir tasarımda kültürel mirasın nasıl yorumlanabileceği Rize’de yer alan bir butik otel kapsamında ele alınmıştır. Geniş bir literatür taraması ile başlayan çalışmada, doküman analizi yöntemi ile örneklem çevresel ve kültürel sürdürebilirlik kapsamında irdelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak geleneksel mimari rehberliğinde yeni yapılan bir yapının geçmişle bağ kurarak ait olduğu toplumun kültürel mirasını yaşatabileceği kanısına ulaşılmıştır.

Cultural heritage is the whole of both tangible and intangible elements that continue to exist by transferring the common values that hold the society together to future generations. Sustainability, which is a subject that has attracted a lot of attention and studies in recent years, is an important factor in ensuring the continuity of cultural heritage. Protecting cultural heritage supports environmental, economic and social development. Traditional architecture, which is the product of local values, lifestyle, materials and craftsmanship, is one of the most prominent examples of cultural heritage. The interpretation and reuse of the features of these structures are as important as conservation in terms of the sustainability of traditional architecture. In this context, in this study, how the cultural heritage can be interpreted in a new design in the context of sustainability, based on the characteristics of traditional architecture, is discussed within the scope of a boutique hotel in Rize. In the study, which started with a wide literature review, the sample was examined within the scope of environmental and cultural sustainability with the document analysis method. As a result, it has been concluded that a newly built building with the guidance of traditional architecture can keep the cultural heritage of the society it belongs to by establishing a bond with the past.
