The efficacy in surface disinfection of bacoban®, a new nanotechnological product
In this study, efficacy of a long lasting new surface disinfectant (Bacoban®) developed as a nanotechnological product was investigated. For this purpose, 100 µl of Candida albicans (ATCC 10231), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853), Bacillus cereus (RSKK 709) and Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 29213) suspensions adjusted to 0.5 McFarland were spread onto glass and plastic surfaces (7 cm2) with sterile swabs. All surfaces left to dry and then disinfectant sprayed onto surfaces. All surfaces incubated open at room temperature and 10 µl of microorganism suspensions were applied to surfaces every second days. Microorganisms were harvested with wet swabs wiping all over the surfaces and the numbers of alive bacteria were counted. This process were repeated 24 hours after each time applying microorganism suspensions. On conclusion, no growth of P.aeruginosa and C.albicans were detected on surfaces for 10 days inspite of new microorganism suspensions were applied to surfaces on every second days. After eight days S.aureus growth was detected on surfaces and determined that Bacoban® did not show adequate effect on S.aureus on the 8th day. And also it did not show adequate effect on Bacillus cereus which is a sporulated bacteria even on the first day. Bacoban® when applied on surfaces shows a strong disinfectant effect on fungi and bacteria for at least 10 days except sporulated bacteria
