Investigation of Frequency of Rotavirus, Adenovirus and Norovirus in Patients with Acute Gastroenteriti

Rotavirus, adenovirus and norovirus presence were investigated in f ecal samples of prediagnosed acute gastroenteritis by immunochromatographic method in Gayrettepe Florence Nightingale Hospital Microbiology Laboratory between January 2011 to December 2012. Rotavirus, adenovirus and norovirus were detected in 9.7 % (n=42/435), 7.5 % (n=32/426) and 8.1 % (n=14/173) of the samples respectively. According to gender, rotavirus ratios in f emale and male patients were 48.3 %, 51 %, adenovirus ratios were 47.9 %, 52.1 % and norovirus ratios were 42.2 %, 57.8 % respectively. There was not any signif i- cant relation between the f requency of the viral agent, gender and seasonality. In a similar way, there were not statistically signif icant diff erences between three diff erent age groups; below f ive years, between six to 17 years and adult (≥ 18 years) patient groups f or rotavirus, adenovirus and norovirus rates.
