HRM Papers Based on the Various Approaches: An Analysis on the Change and Development of the Field Between the Years 1994-2017

In this study, the papers presented in National Management and Organization Conference for 25 years have been examined based on various HRM approaches via content analysis. The papers are categorised according to “Hard HRM”, “Soft HRM”, “Strategic HRM”, “Institutional Theory View of HRM” “International HRM”, and “Critical HRM” approaches based on HRM literature. In the research, first of all out of 2132 papers presented in National Management and Organization Conference, 408 papers have been read one by one and evaluated based on various criteria. These criteria are those HRM approaches, the variables constituting the research subject, type of study (empirical or conceptual) and unit of analysis (organizational or individual level). The results indicate that soft HRM is the most frequently studied approach by the researchers and there is a significant increase in the number of papers presented especially in the last five years. Another noteworthy finding is that HRM has been studied from a strategic view by the researchers since 2000’s. On the other hand, international, critical and institutional views of HRM have been rarely studied in comparison with the other approaches. Finally, the studies taken into consideration generally include quantitative empirical research conducted mostly at the individual level.
