Occurence of methemoglobin (MetHb) in postmortem blood was also investigated by spectrophotometric method. COHb and MetHb levels of postmortem blood samples were found between 63.00-88.00 % (mean 73.11 ± 6.90 %) and 0.864.20 % (mean 3.00 ± 0.87%) respectively. COHb and MetHb levels of the subjects (cigarette smokers n: 100) who exposed to low CO were also determined by the spectrophotometric method mentioned above. COHb and MetHb levels of the smokers were found 1.94 ± 0.11 % COHb and 1.19 ± 0.05 % MetHb who smoked 1-9 cigarettes daily (n: 44), 3.25 ± 0.19 % COHb and 1.47 ± 0.06 % MetHb who smoked 10-20 cigarettes daily (n: 23), 4.36 ± 0.14 % COHb and 1.55 ± 0 . 1 4 % MetHb who smokers in all groups were found significantly higher than the nonsmokers (P < 0.01, P < 0.05)

COHb and MetHb Levels in Victims of CO Poisoning and Cigarette Smokers

Postmortem carboxyhemglobin (COHb) levels in the blood of victims (n: 18) suspected of CO poisoning were determined by Dubowski's spectrophotometric method.
