Chlamydia Trachomatis Infections
Chlamydia trachomatis is one of the most important factors in sexually transmitted diseases. Whereas it leads to cervicitis, urethritis and PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) in women, it causes urethritis, epididymitis and prostatitis in men. C. trachomatis usually infects the epithelial cells lined in the mucius membranes. These are the columnar cells in the cervix, urethra, rectum and the newborn respiratory system cells. In the studies that are carried out, it is observed that C. trachomatis infections are seen at the rate of 2-25% on young people, which is rather high. Another important point is that 50-70% of the infections continue asymptomatically. The diagnosed cases occupy only 10% of C. trachomatis infections. Uncured cases of C. trachomatis infections lead to diseases such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), and can end up in ectopic pregnancy and tubal infertility. Furthermore, C. trachomatis infections observed during pregnancy are known to be related to pregnancy complications such as postpartum endometritis, premature membrane rupture, premature birth, stillbirth and low-weight births. C trachomatis is also one of the most important agents of the reactive arthritis.
