PLAUTILLA ADINA BASILMIŞ NADİR BİR THYATEIRA SİKKESİ

Tunay Demran koleksiyonunda yer alan Caracalla’nın eşi, imparatoriçe Plautilla adına Thyateira’da darp edilmiş olan sikke söz konusu darbın bilinen tek örneğidir. Sikkenin ön yüzünde sağa dönük Plautilla büstü, arka yüzünde ise sağ elinde elma tutan sol kolunun dirseği ile bir sütuna dayanmakta olan ayakta Aphrodite tasviri yer almaktadır. Arka yüz lejandından Strategos Glykon Bakkhios’un memurluğu döneminde darp edildiği anlaşılan sikke MS 202-205 yıllarına tarihlenir.

A RARE THYATEIRA COIN OF PLAUTILLA

The coin in Tunay Demran Collection is the only specimen known of the issue which was struck in Thyateira in the name of empress Plautilla, wife of Caracalla. The coin bears on the obverse side the bust of Plautilla to right and the standing Aphrodite holding in the right hand an apple and leaning on a column with her left elbow on the reverse side. It is understood thanks to the reverse legend that it was struck during the magistrate period of Strategos Glykon Bakchios and it is dated to 202-205 AD.
