The most important depiction that shows that the Hittites kings are deified while in life is figure 34 at Yazılıkaya. The hieroglyphic inscription shows that he is DUTU.AN ‘The Sun God of the Sky’ and its garment shows that he is a king. The most important sign in defining the identification of the figure is the winged sun disk symbol. The Hittite winged sun disk should have had symbolized the Hittite sphinx. As to the Hittite sphinx as supported by the Hittite texts, it should represent the superior powers of the kings and the queens. In this connection, the winged sun disk symbol should had been used as the emblem of the Kingdom. As to the Hittite art, the figures with heads crowned by this symbol should have had represented the kings or the queens, and in other cases it should have had been used as the emblem of the Kingdom of the Hatti Land.
