Examinaıion of frequency and causes of hospital readmission for patients with heart failure

The aim of this study was to examine the frequency and causes of hospital readmission for heart failurepatients. The study was carried out in the cardiology departments of two university hospitals and the researchsample consisted of 137 patients. Patient Demographic Form, Comorbidity Index, and Katz Index of DailyLiving Activities were used for the data collection. The data were analyzed by using the chi-square test and one- way ANOVA test.It was found that, of the participants in the study, 21.9% were readmitted twice, 27.7% three times, and50.4% four or more times. It was determined that the mean age of patients readmitted four or more times, andtheir duration of diagnosis and NYHA functional classes were significantly higher, whereas their left ventricularejection fraction percentages and mean scores of daily living activities were lower. Therefore, it is recommendedthat nurses follow the patients in this group more closely.
