The Second World War led to major changes in the cultural field as well as being effectiveespecially in the field of art and literature. In this study, the effects of World War II on art arehandled by examining the First-and Second-Generation of Abstract Expressionism and also theimpact of it is examined by focusing on the novel Catch-22. The first chapter gives information onthe historical background of the World War-II period which the paintings were produced and thenovel was written, and clarifies the aim and methodology of the study. The following chaptersanalyse the historical background, cultural aspects, human psychology, philosophical influences ofthe war by combining their impact on First and Second Generation of Abstract Expressionism andthe novel Catch-22. The conclusion presents the aim of the article and depicts the impact of the warand its conclusions over the works of art and Catch-22.
