Sanatta ve Savaşta Yüzyılın Tanığı: Life Magazine

Life Dergisi, 1883 yılından itibaren haftalık olarak yayınlanmaya başlanmış, ardından bir süre düzensiz aralıklarla yayınlanmış, 1978-2000 yılları arasında ise aylık olarak basılmış seçkin bir Amerikan mecmuasıdır. 1936’da Time Şirketi’nin himayesine giren dergi, Henry Robinson Luce (1898-1967) sayesinde çok satan yayınlardan biri olmayı başarmıştır. Tanınmış simaları, siyasî gündemi, savaşları ve aynı zamanda günlük Amerikan yaşantısını birbirinden etkili metin ve görseller ile konu edinen derginin ülke ve dünyadaki sanat olayları hakkında yaptığı haberler ise bugün için paha biçilemez bir arşiv niteliğindedir. Derginin hem anavatanında hem de birçok Avrupa ülkesinde gündem belirleyici güce eriştiği dönemin (1936-1972) dökümü / seçkisi niteliğinde hazırlanmış olan bu makale, bilhassa kapak fotoğrafları sayesinde modern siyasetin ilgisini çekmeyi başarmış bir yayın organının sanat camiası tarafından da aynı ilgi ile takip edilmiş olmasının önemine işaret etmeyi hedeflemektedir.

A Witness of Century in Art and War: The Life Magazine

Life Magazine is a preeminent American magazine that started to be published weekly from 1883, for a while in sparse, and then was published monthly between 1978-2000. The magazine, which became the patronage of the Time Company in 1936, became one of the best-selling publications thanks to Henry Robinson Luce (1898-1967). The news about art events in country and the world by magazine, which mentioned famous figures, political agenda, wars and daily American social with effective visuals and texts, has also essence as worth as an inestimable archives. This article, which was prepared as a casting / anthology of a period when the magazine reached a agenda-significative power both in its homeland and many European countries, aims point out importance of a publication achieved to attract attention of modern politics especially thanks to its cover photos, to be followed with the same interest by the art community.
