İkonoklazm hareketi insanlığın ilk tanrılarından beri bir mürtet beyanı olarak kullanıla gelmiştir. Ayrıca İkonoklazm hareketi’nin teolojik bir hadise olmasının yanı sıra siyasi bir boyutu da bulunmaktadır. Bir bakıma yeninin eskiyi veyahut da güçlünün güçsüzü alt etme şekli olarak maddi kültür unsurları üzerinde gerçekleştirilen tahribatla karşımıza çıkan İkonoklazm hareketi, beşerin yeni zuhur eden kutsalın ya da hâli hazırdaki iktidarın gücünün ardına gizlenerek eskiyi yıkma çabasına girişmesi eylemidir. Nihayetinde bu yıkım faaliyeti din ve iktidar gayeli pek çok yapıda karşılık bulmuştur. İktidar ve güç söz konusu olduğunda sembolik bir değer olarak ikonlardaki burun tasvirlerinin hedef alınarak tahrip edilmesi de son derece manidardır. Bu vesileyle çalışmanın amacı insanlık tarihi boyunca burun özelinde gerçekleştirilen İkonoklazm hareketi’nin sebeplerini tespit edebilmek ve temellerine inebilmektir. Verimli bir çalışma ortaya koyabilmek için dolaylı veya vasıtalı akıl yürütme metodunun yanı sıra yazı öncesi dönemden günümüze ulaşmış olan arkeolojik ve görsel malzemenin yanında ikincil kaynaklardan geniş bir literatür taraması yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın nihayetinde tarih boyunca evvel insandan günümüz topluluklarına kadar ikon burunları üzerine yapılan mana yüklemeleri, tespitler ve çıkarımlar aktarılmıştır. İncelemeler neticesinde ikonlar üzerine yerleştirilen veyahut da nakşedilen burnun sembolik olarak yüce bir değere haiz olduğu, farklı mekan ve dönemlerde farklı toplumlarda aynı mana değerine tekabül ettiği anlaşılmıştır.

Iconoclasm Movement has been used as an apostate declaration since the first gods of humanity. In addition to being a theological event, the Iconoclasm Movement also has a political dimension. In a way, the Iconoclasm Movement, which confronts us with the destruction carried out on tangible cultural elements as a way of defeating the old by the new or the strong by the weak, is the act of human beings attempting to destroy the newly emerging sacred or the old by hiding behind power of the current government. Eventually, this demolition activity found a response in many structures with the aim of religion and power. It is also very significant that the nose depictions on the icons are targeted and destroyed as a symbolic value when it comes to power. On this occasion, the aim of the study is to determine the causes of the Iconoclasm Movement, which has been carried out in the nose throughout the history of humanity and to get down to its foundations. In order to present an efficient study, a wide literature review was made from secondary sources, in addition to the indirect or mediated reasoning method, as well as the archaeological and visual materials that have survived from the pre-writing period to the present day. At the end of the research, the meaning attributions, determinations and inferences made on the icon noses from the first human to today's communities throughout history were conveyed. As a result of the examinations, it has been understood that the nose placed or engraved on the icons has a high symbolic value and corresponds to the same meaning value in different societies in different places and periods.
