Effects of Boron Addition in Mn3+ and Nb5+ Doped BNT-BT Lead-Free Piezoelectric Materials
Lead-free piezoelectric ceramics are researched as an alternative to commonly used lead-based (such as PbZr1-xTixO3) piezoelectric ceramics. In this aspect, one of the most investigated materials is (BiNa0.5)TiO3; BNT-based ceramics. Pure BNT ceramics are hard to be poled and have low piezoelectric properties due to their high coercive electric field. However, these properties can be improved when a solid-solution is formed with BaTiO3. Some dopants have been added to further improve the properties. In literature it is often reported that B2O3 is a sintering aid and behaves as a donor dopant occupying interstitial positions. In this study, undoped, %1 Mn+3-, and %1 Nb+5-doped (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-BaTiO3 (BNTBT) ceramics were produced with %1 B+3 addition by using solid-state method. After the density measurements by Archimedes method, ceramics were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and their electrical properties were investigated. Piezoelectric charge constant (d33), dielectric constant (?r), dielectric loss (tan?), polarization and bipolar strain hysteresis (P-E and S-E) measurements were performed for each composition.
