Measurement of Environmental Gamma Radiation in and Around The Hatay Province, Turkey
Measurements were taken after a waiting time of 2 minutes for the device to arrive at a certain balance at a height of about 1 m from 183 different points in order to determine the gamma dose levels by measurements made in the air in and around Hatay province. Measurements were made using an Eberline Smart Portable (ESP-2) model connected to the SPA-6 model plastic scintillation detector. Annual effective dose rate (AEDE) and lifetime cancer risk values (YFKR) were determined by using the gamma dose rate (ADR), gamma dose in the open air, and the presence of radionuclides. The arithmetic mean of the gamma dose measurements using external gamma doses in and around Hatay province was found to be 61.9 nGy /h and the mean value of the annual effective dose equivalent was 75,91 μSv /y. The results that are presented in this study has been compared with the results and the average of similar studies conducted in different regions of the world and Turkey.
