Evaluation of Shear Bond Strengths of Recycled Brackets With Different Orthodontic Adhesives

Recycled brackets are oftenly used during orthodontic therapy. Shear bond strength SBS values of recycled brackets bonded with different adhesives were evaluated in this study. Thirty freshly extracted, caries free maxillary premolars were used in this study. Brackets were bonded to teeth using Transbond XT orthodontic adhesive than SBS values were evaluated with a Universal testing machine.Residual adhesives on brackets were cleaned with a sandblaster using 50 µm aluminium oxide powder. Residual adhesives on teeth were also cleaned and than 3 groups were formed as 10 teeth per group. Recycled brackets were bonded to teeth with Transbond XT, resin modified glass ionomer cement and Clearfil Protect Bond respectively in each group. SBS values were again evaluated with a Universal testing machine. All the groups’ mean SBS values were found to be within the clinical acceptable range and highest mean SBS value was found as 12,92±1,81 MPa in Clearfil Protect Bond group
