Peliosis hepatis in a newborn with viral pneumonia: Case report

We report the case of a newborn boy who was accepted as death upon arrival to hospital. There was no history of previous disease and use of any drug. At autopsy, interstitial (viral) pneumonia and peliosis hepatis were detected. There were no reported peliosis hepatis cases with viral pneumonia and its presence in this age group was striking. Possible role of drugs used by mother was also thought in the etiology of peliosis but any information about drug use by mother could not be possible to obtain. This very rare case of peliosis hepatis together with viral pneumonia in a newborn was presented with discussion.
