Hastalarda yaşam kalitesinde azalma, kas güçsüzlüğü, nefes darlığı, posttravmatik stres bozukluğu,depresyon, anksiyete, kognitif bozukluklar ve cinsel disfonksiyon gelişmektedir. Yoğun bakım hastalarında cinsel istek yokluğu, cinsel istek olmasına rağmen impotans varlığı, nefes darlığı, cerrahi operasyona bağlı şekil bozuklukları ve cinsel aktivite ile birlikte hastalığın tekrarlayacağına ilişkin psikolojik kaygılar cinsel işlev bozukluğu ve kötü bir cinsel yaşamla sonuçlanabilir.
