Effect of ?-carotene injection on fertility in cows synchronised with G6G/Ovsynch protocol
The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of ?-carotene injection on fertility in cows synchronised with G6G/Ovsynch protocol. Cows between postpartum 45-90 days, average milk yields 22±2,1 litres in the first lactation, body condition score 3-3.5, 380 to 450 kg live body weight, no uterine infection and given birth at least once were selected as research material. Forty as control (group 1) and 40 as ?-caroten (group 2), a total of 80 Holstein cows were used in this study. Animals at group 1 G6G/Ovsynch protocol (IM PGF2? 500?g kloprostenol on day 0, IM GnRH 10?g buserelin asetat on day 2, IM GnRH 10?g buserelin asetat on day 8 and placebo, IM PGF2? 500?g kloprostenol on day 15, IM GnRH 10?g buserelin asetat on day 17) protocol was applied and for the second group IM 200 mg ?-carotene administration was performed on day 8. after GnRH injection. Finally, cows were inseminated 16 hours later regardless of oestrus signs.Pregnancy rates were 48% and 52,5% according to the groups 1st and 2nd respectively and there was no statistical difference between the groups (P>0.05). It was detected that the pregnancy rates were higher in G6G/Ovsynch + ?-Carotene group than G6G/Ovsynch. According the results obtained from the study, ?-Carotene has positive effects on fertility parameters in dairy cows and it can be applied as additional treatment to synchronisation protocols in clinical practice
