Brexit Sonrası Doğu Akdeniz ve Kıbrıs: Birleşik Krallık İçin Fırsatlar ve Zorluklar

Hukuki ve siyasi anlamda birçok sorunu bünyesinde barındıran Doğu Akdeniz bölgesi, keşfedilen enerji kaynakları ile birlikte küresel aktörlerin rekabet ettiği bir coğrafya haline gelmiştir. Birleşik Krallık ise Kıbrıs’ta bulunan egemen üsleri aracılığıyla Doğu Akdeniz bölgesinde küresel aktör olma potansiyeli olmakla birlikte, bölgeye kıyısı olan üslerinin deniz yetki alanları iddiasını dile getirmesi, bölgesel dengeleri önemli ölçüde değiştirebilecektir. Haziran 2016’da gerçekleşen Brexit referandumu sonrası başlayan geçiş döneminin tamamlanmasının ardından Birleşik Krallık’ın Avrupa Birliği (AB) ile yaklaşık 50 yıldır sürdürdüğü tarihi birliktelik sona ermiştir. Bu bağlamda Birleşik Krallık’ın Brexit sonrası değişikliğe uğraması beklenen dış politika tercihlerinden Doğu Akdeniz bölgesine yönelik atacağı adımlar ise bölgede yeni bir sürecin başlamasına neden olabilecektir. Bu çalışmada Brexit sonrasında Birleşik Krallık’ın Doğu Akdeniz politikasında yaşanabilecek değişiklikler ve bölgede Birleşik Krallık açısından oluşabilecek fırsatlar ve zorluklar, Birleşik Krallık-AB ilişkileri, Birleşik Krallık’ın Kıbrıs’ta bulunan üslerinin hukuki statüsü ve genel olarak Doğu Akdeniz bölgesine yönelik dış politika öncelikleri irdelenmiştir.
