Effect of phosphate solubilizing bacteria to growth of cotton plant and Verticillium w ilt

Abstract: The five bacterial strains (6k8- Pseudomonas putida, 6ba6- Pseudomonasfluorescens, F5- Burkholderia cepacia, E21- Pseudomonas sp., C5- Bacillus megaterium)isolated from rizosphere of various crop plants were selected for their potential to solubilizeorganic or inorganic phosphate, and investigated for the effect of Verticillium wilt of cottonand plant growth. Bacterization of cotton seeds (cv. Carmen) with F5 and 6ba6 significantlyincreased the uptake of phosphorus and dry weight of cotton plants by 47.9% and 23.1%,respectively. After inoculation of cotton plants by stem injection, seed bacterization withE21 and F5 resulted in significant protection (68.4% and 38.9%, respectively) against non- defoliating strain of Verticillium dahliae, but none of the strains was effective against thedefoliating strain. In the presence of mikrosclerotia (10 ms/g soil) of two different strains ofV. dahliae, seed bacterization with E21 and 6ba6 was significantly suppressed the diseaseby 69% and 66% respectively, against the non- defoliating strain and by 51.4% and 54%respectively, against the defoliating strain.
