İslam toplumunda insan eğitimine hizmet veren temel kurumlardan biri olan tekkeler ilk yüzyıllardan beri varolagelmiştir. İnsanın mistik, etik ve estetik boyutuna hitap eden tekkeler fikrî, hissî hayatın da gelişmesine doğrudan tesir etmiştir. Tekkelerde gönül eğitimini gerçekleştiren gönül adamları İslam kültürünün oluşumunda emeği olan insanların başında yer almışlardır. Zamanla organize olan tarikatlarla birlikte tesir ve yaygınlığı artan tekkeler bölgenin ihtiyaçlarına göre farklı alanlarda da hizmet vermişlerdir. Temel görevi müminlerin ahlak eğitimi olan bu kurumlar ve temsilcilerinin buldukları eğitim unsurları bugün de konu ile ilgilenenlerin dikkatini çekmektedir.

The presence of tekkes (sufi lodges), which are known as one of the principal educational institutions in the Islamic world, can be dated back to the first centuries.
