Bu araştırmada, İzmit Körfezi'nde sekizi denizde ve biri karada yapılmış olan 9 sondajdan elde edilen 164 örnek incelenmiş, ostrakod içeren 126 örnekten 31 tanesinde Urocythereis britannica Athersuch'a rastlanılmıştır. Farklı mollusk örneklerinden, elektron spin rezonans yöntemi ile elde edilen sayısal yaş değerlerine dayanılarak, Urocythereis britannica Athersuch'nın Alt Pleyistosen'in sonlarına doğru, Ege Denizi'nden Marmara Denizi'ne ve izmit Körfezi'ne ulaşmış olduğu anlaşılmıştır.

In this study, 164 samples that were collected by drilling from one on land and eight in the sea were investigated in izmit Bay. Ostracod species were observed in 126 samples and only in 31 of these samples, Urocythereis britannica Athersuch was present. The evaluations of the species, age by electron spin resonance technique showed that Urocythereis britannica Athersuch reached izmit Bay and Marmara Sea through the Agean Sea towards the end of Lower Pleistocene.
