Fifty patients with cow s milk allergy symptoms such as wheezing recurrent bronchitis rhinitis colic dermatitis were investigated Feeding history symptoms and familial atopy were recorded Complete blood count IgE phadiatop milk specific IgE were measured Skin prick test wag performed with cow s milk protein egg and common inhalant allergens A milk free diet was instituted for at least 3 weeks before milk challenge The open controlled challenge procedure was applied to the asymptomatic patients 21 patients with repeated symptoms were accepted as cow s milk allergy The mean age of the patients was 4 21±2 46 months The most common symptoms were respiratory symptoms such as wheezing coughing and rhinitis 52 6 The other symptoms were as follows: gastrointestinal symptoms colic irritability 9 5 diarrhea coughing 9 5 wheezing and dermatitis 9 5 diarrhea and dermatitis 9 5 rhinitis and colic 4 7 dermatitis 4 7 Familial atopy was determined in 52 of our patients In our series; the most common manifestations of cow s milk allergy were upper and lower respiratory symptoms Key words: Cow s Milk Allergy Childhood
