8707 students were investigated for short stature in primary schools of Ankara 108 students whose height were found below 3 persentile evaluated by the complete blood count urine feces bone ages renal function tests the thyroid hormones the growth hormone stimulation tests Out of 60 students whose chronologic age gt; height = bone age 42 had the diagnosis of constitutional short stature 10 had intrauterin growth retardation 2 had a systemic disorder 5 had familial short stature 24 students had their chronologic age gt; height age gt; bone age of those; 6 had the history of intrauterine growth retardation one psychosocial short stature and 17 had idiopathic short stature In the last group of 12 patients where chronologic age gt; bone age gt; height age the etiology in one patients was intrauterine growth retardation in 2 systemic disease One of the 2 patients one had growth hormon deficiency and the other hypotiroidi Key words: Short Stature Etiology Prevelance
