Humerus, Radius ve Ulna’daki Foramen Nutricium’ların Sayı ve Lokalizasyonlarının İncelenmesi

Amaç: kemiğe kan sağlayan a. nutricia’nın seyrettiği foramen nutricium (FN) önemli bir role sahiptir.

Examination of the number and localization of nutrient foramen in the humerus, radius, and ulna

Objective: Nutrient foramina (NF) have a crucial role in the nutrient artery supplying blood to the bone. This study investigates the number, location, and transverse diameter of nutrient foramina in humerus, radius, and ulna of dry bones of Turkish origin. Materials and Methods: 64 humerus, 37 radius, and 26 ulna dry bones were morphometrically examined at Trakya University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Anatomy. The location, number, and transverse diameter of the nutrient foramina were measured. The foraminal index (FI) (calculated by dividing the distance between the proximal end of the bone and the nutricial foramen by the total length of the bone) was calculated for each of the bones. Results: The number of NF is single in 81% of the humerus bones. In 80% of the humerus bones, the NF is located on the anteromedial surface. The mean transverse diameter of the NF is 1.2 mm and the mean FI is 55.47 for humerus bones. In all radius bones, the number of NF is small and they are located on the anterior surface. The mean transverse diameter of NF is 0.98 mm and the mean value of FI is 34.60 for radial bones. The number of NF is simple in 92% of ulnar bones and in 89% it is on the anterior surface. The mean transverse diameter of NF is 1.24 mm and the mean value of FI is 37.16 in ulna bones. Conclusion: Knowledge of the position, number, and morphometric characteristics of the NF is of critical importance in healing long bone fractures and in all surgical or orthopedic procedures on limbs.
