SOME LASER TECHNIQUES APPLlED IN TEXTILES AND THElR ADVANTAGES

The application of laser techniques in textiles as well as in many technological areas are becoming anincreasingly widespread situation, since it is extremely convenient to use laser beams for making precise and quick measurements and controlling the operations. Some optical wave events are evolved through irradiating an objecr by thin, parallelised and polarized beams. In this way,it may be possible to obtain an exact knowledge about surfaces, volumes or some points. By using Laser Two Focus Anemometer, the flow behaviour in the weaving channel of an air-jet weaving machine can be detected. This helps to achieve optimal impulse transmission to the weft yarn. To measure the parallelism of fibers in tops and slivers or the hairiness of yarns is based on the image analysis performed by optical diffraction, which provides information for determining the fiber parallelisation efficiency of the machines in the spinning process or gives reliable hairiness values of yarns. In "speckle pattern" method, kinds of defects or presence of periodic defects in a woven fabric and their size can be detected. The surface configuration of a fabric is also obtained.
