The effect of urea application on the urease activity, nitrate and ammonium transformations in soils
In this research, 30 different soils in respect to their physical and chemical properties of 9 different great soil group from Konya and Niğde interior basin were used. 500 ppm N as urea was applied to the soil samples, and then soils were incubated 28 days. Soil samples were teken, through the experiment 0, 7, 14 and 28 days of incubation and ammonium-N, nitrate-N and urease activity were determined. Nitrofen transformations from urea were calculated by determining the subsequent amount of soil mineral nitrogen at the and of the experiment..Ammonium-N of the soils increased during the experiment up to 14th days of the experiment and but decreased 28th days. Nitrate-N of the soils increased in general during the experiment. Urease activity was changed according to the properties of the research soil. Nitrogen loss from the soil samples negatively correlated with silt, lime, organic matter and total-N (r=0.736***, r=-0.377*, r=0.565** and r=0.617***, respectively). However, positive correlation was found between N loss and amount of sand, r=0.754***.
